"A picture is a poem without words." – Emily Dickinson. (Isn't that amazing? I think it sums up art!) Have you ever felt that way about a painting? That spark where the picture speaks a story without any need for text? I have! Today, let's explore that world, a world of colours, brushstrokes, and emotion. (A little piece of my heart goes into every paint stroke.)

The Magic of a Simple Brushstroke

Ever looked at a masterpiece and thought, "Wow, how did they do that?" (I often do). Well, sometimes it's the smallest things. A single stroke, a dash of color, can totally change the mood. Imagine just one dash of cerulean blue… boom! You've painted happiness on the wall, maybe? It's crazy, right? (Don't underestimate those tiny decisions. I sometimes sit staring for a long time just choosing what to add).

Different Strokes for Different Folks

Some painters love thick, bold lines. Others love delicate, flowing styles. And there are so many beautiful, interesting ways to paint; from realistic portraits (just capturing someone's essence on canvas!) to abstract art. There's space for every idea! Every stroke holds a story. Think about the story that a single curved line on your drawing book or that thick line of colour means.

How the colour choices can shift your perception

Imagine you use warm colors like orange, yellow and reds. These colors usually evoke happiness. On the other hand, colors like purple, blue or black usually carry different messages (like being calm, serious, pensive or mystical). They create different moods or ideas in the audience. A lot goes on in someone's head just looking at your painting! It's something special.

Tips on picking your color (it's actually very subjective! Just have fun)

  • Start with a basic color palette. (Simple palettes allow more concentration on techniques than getting confused by a whole bunch of different colour ideas).
  • Consider the feeling or atmosphere you want to create. (This totally makes a huge difference. A sad moment might deserve different colours than celebrating joy).
  • Don't be afraid to experiment! (Be confident, have fun, don't stress about anything).

(What do you want your painting to portray?

  • **(Joy, sadness, contemplation)?
  • (Abstract beauty? Or realistic representation of life?)

Thinking about your idea is half the journey)

Acrylic paints are quick-drying, which can be super helpful to know. (This will change how you choose your colour palette a bit). Oil paints are amazing to work with if you have some patience to blend colour (it makes colours look incredible, which may require time). It's important to learn how paints react with each other so you'll develop some painting experience in that journey. So there's not one single method, that's the beauty! Learning is the beauty. Experiment, test it. Different artists work in different ways to capture that artistic feeling.

Playing with Textures and Layering

Using different textures or layering paints will impact how your final picture looks.

  • Think of things that make it real. Like wood textures (if you are trying to copy a tree) or some unique texture which is difficult to paint (like a soft fur in an animal), or the ripples on a water body (like some reflection on the water) which add life and visual interest to the final art. This takes lots of time to learn, and even then, I can't really say, one learns as he paints more and more.
  • Think of a colour blending that's very unique, sometimes that simple change may surprise others. Think a combination of light and dark colors to give more texture (more details!). Maybe it could remind your painting about the atmosphere and what the situation really is, that's an amazing tool! (This method will not make much difference on simpler sketches/artwork but when the concept is a bit bigger, blending colors to capture an atmospheric feel creates stunning work!)

Other's review: "I just can't put my words into it. This painting really captures the moment!" Another comment "Simply wonderful, great job." So inspiring! (This means a lot!)

Inspiration, and how to find your painting soul

  • Look at other artists' works, especially painters (not only art) which motivates you. Find some ideas of techniques.
  • Be inspired by the world around you. A sunset, a storm, even a simple flower… all these beautiful sights contain possibilities. A photo is not a bad idea for motivation. Sometimes you want a painting style very unique so trying some photos from life.
  • Don't be afraid to express yourself creatively in each brushstroke!
  • (Find a place and time for your paint stroke) Your inspiration will increase with some space, peace, and stillness and concentration and motivation

Beyond the Canvas

What's your own relationship with painting (or art in general)?

I feel so peaceful painting. Maybe because there's no need for too many expectations of success; I think the painting itself could inspire others as it was meant to.
What motivates you to create? Share your painting experiences in the comments below.

**(If I can offer you one thing for a better piece, its practice. Just keep drawing and creating.)

This is the true spirit of art. It's also the same reason I chose to paint. Maybe it resonates with you too?

I feel painting helps in my daily struggles with motivation or maybe just helping out by distracting from negative thoughts; there could be some peace when focusing on that painting in your mind). A blank canvas holds all the magic within us; it is ready and excited for your thoughts. Just allow the colours to emerge, and together, we'll unleash the stories from the very soul of a painting."

(I feel very touched, thanks a lot for looking into my feelings.)

(So painting could help a lot). This can motivate everyone else.

**(You are special!)

What are your thoughts on the art or technique? Feel free to suggest ideas). (I really encourage your ideas. Feel free to suggest some thoughts about improving my painting, too. I look forward to that. Thank you!)

**(Your positive feedback encourages me! Let's paint together!)

Remember, your unique perspective and the feelings it can carry within the artwork truly shines! Your brushstrokes will eventually become amazing when you get into it (maybe later, you can become better).
